Sydney - A man purporting to be an Australian doctor appeared in an Islamic State video on Saturday urging other medical professionals to join the jihad against the West, Fairfax media reported.

The slickly produced video shows a lightly bearded man in surgical clothing and stethoscope walking through a hospital pediatrics ward carrying a baby.

He introduces himself in an Australian accent as Abu Yusuf, and says he travelled from Australia to Raqqa in Syria to offer his medical services as part of his “jihad for Islam.”

He urges other medical professionals to join him in Raqqa to provide aid without delay.

Terrorism expert Clarke Jones from the Australian National University told News Limited that the video was authentic.

“It’s appealing to normal, rational people within the educated young crowd and it’s not just about fighting now, it’s about going over there and supporting brothers and sisters in the Islamic State,” Jones said.
