The chief executive of a South Korean ferry operator was jailed for 10 years on Thursday for involuntary manslaughter over a sinking that killed more than 300 people this year, a news report said.

“Kim also caused losses to the company through embezzlement and professional malpractice and transferred secret funds to the family of Yoo Byung Eun,” Yim was quoted as saying.

Three other crew were sentenced to 15, 20 and 30 years, respectively, on related charges.

The Sewol sank on April 16 on the way from Incheon to Jeju Island off the south-west of the peninsula. Rescuers recovered 295 bodies were recovered, with the remaining nine missing presumed dead.
