Jakarta - A Japanese drug convict has been found hanged in a prison on Indonesia’s resort island of Bali in apparent suicide, police said on Monday.

The body of Yuki Morita, 40, was found dangling from a ceiling grid outside his cell in the Kerobokan prison by a fellow inmate, said local police chief, Tony Binsar Marpaung.

He had been let out of his cell for cleaning duty along with other prisoners.

Morita was serving an 18-year sentence for trying to smuggle six kilograms of hashish into Bali in 2011.
