Tokyo - Japanese police arrested a 33-year-old man on suspicion of a series of cat killings in Tokyo, where the bodies of more than 40 of the animals have been found since April, a report said on Friday.

The man was charged with injuring a cat by wringing its neck and slamming it into the ground at a parking lot in Ota ward, Tokyo, early on Thursday, the Kyodo News agency reported. He was allegedly violating the animal protection law.

Police officers on patrol found the bodies of four cats in the basket of his bicycle, the report said.

The man said he killed them “to relieve his stress” and “out of frustration with people who feed stray cats”, investigators told Kyodo.

The man admitted to his involvement in the serial slayings in the area and said he gave some of them food laced with pesticide, the report said. - Sapa-dpa
