Two television journalists were shot and killed while conducting a live broadcast at a shopping centre in Virginia.

WDBJ7 reporter Alison Parker, and cameraman, Adam Ward, were reportedly shot by a disgruntled former or current employee of the station.

The incident took place in Bedford County, in the south-central part of the state and about 190 km from the state capital of Richmond.

Shots were heard and the Parker and the person she was interviewing screamed and ducked for cover.

The shooter is being pursued by police.

Condolences for the slain journalists are pouring in on Twitter, with many users expressing horror at the “senseless” killing.
