PICS: More than just a mask

From small children riding motorbikes with parents, to old woman going about their daily activities: the most prominent and eye-catching feature of Nepal is the high number of people who adorn themselves with facial masks.

Some are surgical masks; some are generic, while others are used as an extension of a personality.

Due to the recent outbreak of swine flu in some parts of the country, people are taking precautionary measures to avoid contracting the virus. Others have said they use them due to the high level of air pollution and dust particles in the air, facial masks are used to prevent inhaling unwelcome airborne elements.
