Paris - An autopsy has shown that a French woman found dead at the residence of a South African diplomat in Paris died of lung failure and tests were being conducted for possible drug use, a judicial source said Monday.
Prosecutors opened an investigation into the 26-year-old woman's death after her body was discovered Saturday at the first secretary of the South African embassy's home, where she had attended an overnight party.
“According to the first elements from the investigation, her death was the result of a pulmonary oedema,” an accumulation of fluid in the lungs, the source told AFP.
“This death occurred in the context of possible cocaine use,” the source said, adding that tests were underway to determine if any drugs were present in the body.
“Every person who was with this woman has been questioned,” the source said.
Representatives of the South African embassy were unreachable for comment on Monday. - Sapa-AFP
