London - A powerful car bomb exploded outside the Australian embassy in central Jakarta on Thursday, killing at least eight people and injuring more than 100.

Here are some of the worst bomb attacks around the world since the September 11, 2001 hijacked plane attacks in the United States:

2002:

March 27

Suicide bomber blows himself up in a hotel in the Israeli resort town of Netanya, killing 29 people.

April 11

Truck explodes near El Ghriba synagogue on Tunisian island of Djerba. Kills 20, including 14 Germans.

May 8

Suspected suicide bomber kills 11 French navy experts and three Pakistanis in Pakistani city of Karachi.

October 12

Bombs explode in Kuta Beach nightclub strip on Bali, Indonesia, killing 202 people and injuring hundreds.

November 28
