Two months after celebrating her one-year anniversary as the host of Metro FM’s premier lifestyle show, The Front Row, Bonang Matheba has been nominated in the Best Radio DJ category at the prestigious Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards 2015.

The radio DJ and TV presenter has been nominated in the African contemporary category alongside fellow South African radio personalities Roger Goode, Darren Simpson and Poppy Ntshongwana, who are all competing for Favourite Radio DJ.

Matheba, a first-time nominee, is likely to brush shoulders with international stars such as Iggy Azalea, Sam Smith, Angelina Jolie, Channing Tatum and Meryl Streep, who have all been nominated in different categories.

Speaking to the Saturday Star this week, Matheba said she had been taken by surprise:

“It really is an amazing feeling to be nominated,” said Matheba.

“I just received a rather special letter from the Viacom International Media team informing me of my nomination. Boy - happiness and gratitude trended in my life!

“It always brings joy to my heart when my craft and passion is recognised.

“I can never get used to this feeling, it gets me every time.”

Matheba said that it would mean “everything” to her to win a Kids’ Choice Award.

“Every award I receive is an honour. For people to sit down and nominate you and get the public voting; that I respect.”

“However, I am super-excited about this nomination, ecstatic to say the least. It would mean everything to me if I win this.”

Matheba attributed her success as a radio DJ to her focus.

“If you are 100% focused on what you do and pour out pure love for it, you will be a great success.”

The Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards premieres on Nickelodeon (channel 305 on DStv) on Wednesday, April 1 at 4pm. Encore performances will air on Friday, April 3 at 5pm, Saturday, April 4 at 8.55am and Sunday, April 5 at 1.10pm.
