London - A 2 500-year-old mummified Siberian princess is set to be reburied because native groups claim her anger is causing floods and earthquakes.

The tattooed 25-year-old was preserved in permafrost until she was dug up by archaeologists in 1993.

Now the Council of Elders in the Russian republic of Altai, on the border of Kazakhstan and Mongolia, has passed a vote to rebury her remains.

“It is claimed recent flooding in Altai – the worst in 50 years – and a series of earthquakes are the result of ancient anger at the grave being disturbed,” reported The Siberian Times.

Princess Ukok is currently displayed in a glass sarcophagus at a museum in the regional capital Gorno-Altaisk.

Government spokesman Oksana Yeremeeva said: “We cannot just bury it, no-one has done such things before. We as officials should work out the way to implement it.” - Daily Mail
