London - They say the quickest way to get somewhere is as the crow flies. But this crow decided to speed things up a bit – and managed to hitch a lift on the back of a bald eagle.
The encounter over the skies of Seabeck, Washington, lasted only a few seconds before the birds parted and went their own separate ways.
Luckily amateur photographer 50-year-old Phoo Chan was on hand to capture the moment.
He said: “I was photographing a bald eagle flying around hunting for an early meal when suddenly the crow approached the eagle from behind. I was completely in awe when I saw that the crow had landed on the back of the flying eagle.
“It was as if the crow was having a short break and taking a free ride at the same time.”
He added: “At first I thought the crow was going to be chased away. But surprisingly the eagle didn’t seem to mind and kept flying as if nothing happened. It looked like they became friends.”
Mr Chan went on to say: “When people see my photos they are wowed and ask how I was able to capture the images. I guess you just have to be in the right place at the right time.”
