London - Scientists are testing a new pill to take the sting out of a hangover.

In a six-month study, researchers in California have asked a group of men and women who regularly suffer hangovers to take a pill containing either the active drug or a placebo.

The active pill contains aspirin and sumatriptan succinate, a drug used to treat migraine.

During migraine attacks, blood vessels in the brain become enlarged and sumatriptan helps by constricting these vessels. It may help hangovers because alcohol also causes blood vessels to expand, triggering a headache.

Participants will record the severity of their hangovers for the 24 hours after treatment, the number of drinks they consumed in the last sitting and the time of last drink consumed. - Daily Mail
