Tennis fans can now take advantage of innovations in smart, mobile technologies to help them reach their sporting goals. Sony’s Smart Tennis Sensor connects with a smart device to track tennis perfromance. Using the device players can analyse, review, share and compare their progress against pre-set targets.

Sony partnered with tennis manufacturers including Wilson, Head, Prince and Yonex to make the device available to tennis players.

The sensor, which uses metrics such as vibration sensing, is fixed to the handle of the tennis racket. While playing the sensor will record data such as the number of shots played, ball impact spot, swing type, swing speed, ball speed and ball spin.

A full charge will last around 180 minutes, enough time for most players to get some useful data.

Once the match is over the sensor is connected to a smartphone or tablet wirelessly to transfer and access the recorded data. The data is reviewed using the Smart Tennis Sensor App which is downloadable from the Google Play/App Store.

The Smart Tennis Sensor will be available in mid-May from Wilson retailers.
