London - Technology buffs are going mad for the latest cellphone - even though you can’t watch films, surf the net or even listen to music with it.

In fact, the new £13 Nokia 105 offers no bells or whistles — except a battery that lasts an impressive 35 days before needing to be recharged.

Such phones have been nicknamed “dumb phones” and are marketed at older users who just want an easy-to-use model.

But the dirt-cheap mobiles have another nickname, “drunk phones”.

Young party-goers who have lost an iPhone on a night out, or dropped their BlackBerry in the gutter (or worse) while drunk, are buying these cheaper models as a dispensable alternative to take out when they hit the town.

They are also popular with those going to summer music festivals such as Glastonbury, and who don’t want to risk dropping their phone in the (inevitable) mud — or face queuing for hours to recharge their device at a power source, sometimes at great expense.

The new 35-day Nokia 105 is due to launch soon across Europe.

Now, if only there were a festival phone that could compel your teenager to ring home to tell you that, yes, they are still alive — and that their tent hasn’t sunk into the mire. - Daily Mail
