London - In an age where we do less and less for ourselves, it is unsurprising there is now a gadget to remind us to sit up straight.

The device monitors posture and scolds you if you are slouching in your chair.

Slump forward and the LUMOback Sensor delivers a recorded message: “Sit up straight. Put your shoulders back. Don’t slouch.” Spend just half an hour in a chair and it says: “Stand up for yourself!”

You strap a sensor onto your lower back which connects, via wireless technology, to the LUMOback app, which can be installed on your smart phone or tablet.

The LUMOback app will then make your phone vibrate if you have slouched for four seconds. If you don’t rectify your pose, it will buzz again after 11 seconds. Further warnings are sent at regular intervals until you sit up straight.

The LUMOback sensor costs £97/R1 500 (lumoback.com). So, put your shoulders back and keep your chin up — or you’ll be nagged until you do. - Daily Mail
