London - If your partner has two left feet and routinely embarrasses you on the dance floor, then this might be the answer to all your prayers. Because an American company has invented “smart socks” that are designed to help you get better at running, skiing, playing golf – and even dancing.

The hi-tech garments look and feel like normal socks, and can still be thrown in the washing machine. However they are made of special fibres that are able to monitor your movement.

Sensors record each twist and turn, and relay the information to a smartphone via an ankle bracelet transmitter. Then a “virtual coach” analyses the information and tells the user how to improve their technique in any task involving the feet.

Manufacturer Heapsylon has already developed shirts and bras that check heart rate, breathing and dehydration levels.

They are now about to release their latest product, with the futuristic footwear going on sale in March priced at around £120 (about R2 000).

Company chairman Davide Vigano said: “We have had interest from all sorts of sports like skiing and football. We even had a guy who wants to use it for the tango.” - Daily Mail
