Durban - Titan, the intergalactic superstar, proved a big hit at the Galleria shopping centre in eManzimtoti this week.

The 2.5m-high robot, which can sing, dance – and even do Gangnam-style moves – made three crowd-pulling appearances and had thousands of holidaymakers and shoppers spellbound.

The final afternoon appearance really packed the audience in, with insiders saying that the bumper crowd was equivalent to the morning shows.

The British-based Titan, who travels the world with his crew, was on his first South African tour.

There was excitement as well as what organisers said was ‘a healthy level of fear’ as Titan made his entrance to stirring music and flashing laser lighting.

And just like any other superstar, he was escorted by men in black… suitably-attired bodyguards sporting sunglasses.

Children were hoisted on their fathers’ shoulders, and thousands of cellphone photographs were taken of Toti’s tallest tourist.

Girls jostled to get selfies with the visitor. The robot showed his romantic nature too, presenting one girl with a rose – and then spraying it with a stream of water from his face.

A sneeze and a rude noise had children in fits of laughter. Then, when Titan left the main centre court, hundreds of fans followed him down the aisles.

He popped into a couple of shops and whistled at a mannequin in a fashion shop.

When Titan’s time was up, he disappeared into a cordoned-off holding area.
