Hands-on with Halo 5: Guardians

I recently got the chance to play a bit of the new multiplayer mode of “Halo 5: Guardians.” The continuation of the classic series is generating a lot of excitement among Xbox faithful.

I was a bit apprehensive because I’m honestly pretty horrible at shooters. They make me dizzy.

Yet “Warzone,” as the multiplayer mode is called, is pretty accessible, even for a total novice like me. I managed to stay alive for multiple minutes at a time, which is an accomplishment for a player of my lowly level.

It’s an ambitious mode that feels almost like a game unto itself, with a sizable map and stunning scenery.

On the surface, Warzone seems like a standard, timed base-capture game, in which two teams compete for control of specific points on the map. The victors had to either control the most locations when the timer ran out or reach 1 000 collective points to win.

Players fight each other in factions – red vs blue – but there are also artificial intelligence bots that support your enemies and make for some handy target practice.

Warzone is super-flexible and just downright fun, and certainly a mode in which one could waste a lot of time. – Washington Post
