Los Angeles - Sony sold more than 1 million Playstation 4 consoles on its first day of release in North America, the Japanese electronics giant said on Monday.
But the sales success of the highly anticipated videogame device was marred by reports of occasional glitches that made some of the units inoperable. Sony has now issued a guide on online forums to help users fix their problem and said it was working to fix the issues.
“PS4 was designed with an unwavering commitment to gamers, and we are thrilled that consumer reaction has been so phenomenal,” said Andrew House, president and group chief executive officer of Sony Computer Entertainment.
“Sales remain very strong in North America, and we expect continued enthusiasm as we launch the PlayStation 4 in Europe and Latin America on November 29.”
With the devices quickly sold out at many retailers, private sellers were offering the 399-dollar devices on online auction site eBay for up to $1 000 (about R10 000).
Frustrated buyers also have another option: The PS4's biggest competitor, Microsoft's Xbox One, goes on sale on Friday. - Sapa-dpa
