Soul Sacrifice

Platform: PS Vita

Developer: Sony

Rating out of five: ***

Soul Sacrifice takes Monster Hunter's formula of building up your character until he, or she, is able to assail gigantic beasts, adds in a whole new level of violence - but then fails to really shine.

The means of gaining powers and experience is a good one, as our hero, imprisoned by evil sorcerer Magusar, reads pages from a magical diary in a bid to learn the art of magic.

However, a sharp difficulty curve and unrefined approach to combat (not helped by a dizzying array of armaments) mars what is an all-action take on the hunter genre. - The Independent
