Seoul - South Korea's Hyundai Elevator said on Wednesday it plans to unveil the world's fastest lift in the first half of this year.

It will run at a speed of 1 080 metres a minute, beating Toshiba's world record of 1 010 meters a minute at the TAIPEI 101 building in Taiwan, Hyundai said.

Company officials said the firm was testing the lift at the world's tallest elevator-testing tower - 206 metres high - which it owns south of Seoul.

Demand for high-speed lifts is rising as more and more skyscrapers with over 100 storeys go up at home and abroad. - AFP
