A recycling centre in the US is trying to track down a woman who dropped off an old Apple computer which turned out to be worth £130,000 (R2,4 million).

The highly collectible Apple I was inside boxes of electronics she had cleared out of her garage after her husband died.

It is believed to be one of 200 first-generation desktop computers assembled by Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak and Ron Wayne in 1976, the year the trio founded Apple.

It was their first product and Jobs sold his VW Campervan to finance production. Only 63 Apple Is are believed to still exist.

Victor Gichun, vice president of Clean Bay Area in Milpitas, California, said they sold the computer to a private collector.

The company gives half the profit on items sold to the original owner, so the mystery woman will be in for a £65,000 windfall. – Daily Mail
