Cape Town - New e-Braille portable computers were handed to the Athlone School for the Blind and the Pioneer School in Worcester by Education MEC Donald Grant, who said that they would “revolutionise” teaching and learning.

Gerhard Erasmus, assistive technology specialist at Edit Microsystems which makes the Braille Note Apex, said it allowed pupils to read electronic textbooks, using Braille.

Pupils could also send text messages through computer-generated speech. They would be able to browse the internet and connect to other devices via Bluetooth. The device could be used to type text in Braille.

The department would also provide four Eye-Pal Solo devices, which scan and read text. - Cape Argus
