Coming soon: Facebook at Work

London - Facebook may be banned in many offices to prevent staff wasting time online – but the website is biting back, with a social network especially for the workplace.

A British division of the US company has created ‘Facebook at Work’, to take on similar systems offered by internet rivals Google and Microsoft.

The site will allow staff to work together on projects and computer files online, adding comments and making changes even if they are on different continents.

The network would also help younger users to keep professional Facebook at Work accounts separate from their private Facebook pages, which are more likely to be filled with photographs of drunken nights out than sober work-related suggestions.

It could also persuade more older professionals to use the site – which would in turn help the company to make more money through advertising.

Facebook is keen to overcome its negative image among employers. Surveys have shown that about 54 percent of firms have blocked the site on work computers because it distracts staff. - Daily Mail
