Wesbank pupils, many of whom used to have to walk to a library in Kuils River to conduct research for their assignments, now have access to a new multimillion-rand e-learning and resource centre at Hoofweg Primary School.

The centre was launched by Mineral Resources Minister Ngoako Ramatlhodi yesterday.

At the launch,

Principal Allystair Sauer said pupils at the school and nearby would now benefit from internet access as well as their own library.

He said that the new facilities would enable them to conduct their research closer to home.

More than 4 000 pupils were expected to benefit from the centre.

Sauer said that a maths program had been installed on the computers to help boost pupils’ numeracy skills.

He said that older nearby residents also would have access to the centre, including basic adult education and training classes.

The centre is a partnership between AfriSam, the Airports Company of South Africa, the Western Cape Education Department and the Department of Mineral Resources.
