San Francisco - McDonald's shut down an employee website on Thursday that appeared to warn workers of the fast food giant against eating the very food they prepare.

The embarrassing advice appeared on the McResource Line and appeared to advice employees not to eat at the restaurant.

The site showed a picture of a burger, fries and soda alongside an image of a sandwich, salad and glass of water.

“Fast foods are quick, reasonably priced, and readily available alternatives to home cooking,” read the text. “While convenient and economical for a busy lifestyle, fast foods are typically high in calories, fat, saturated fat, sugar, and salt and may put people at risk for becoming overweight.” The site was unavailable on Thursday, with visitors being greeted with an out of order notice.

“We'll Be Back Soon!” said the site. “We are temporarily performing some maintenance in order to provide you with the best experience possible.

“Please excuse us while these upgrades are being made.” The site has been repeatedly ridiculed in the past year for its advice to the low-paid workers of the fast food giant.

In advice on monthly budgets the company appeared to counsel workers to get a second job in order to make ends meet, while in another post it offered advise on how much to tip pool cleaners, housekeepers and au pairs. - Sapa-dpa
