Their untroubled faces stare out from photos placed on Twitter by worried loved ones.

Having vanished during the night of terror, their pictures were posted under the hashtag #rechercheParis (‘search Paris’) by family and friends desperate to know if they are alive.

As each hour has passed, the poignant gallery has grown. Stories of hope and despair emerged. A photograph of one French girl had the simple message: ‘Share please — she is only 17!’ Fourteen hours later, came an update: ‘She did not die!’

For others, there is tragedy. An appeal was launched for Marie and Mathias, who were at the Bataclan. But on Saturday a friend tweeted: ‘The search is finished. I have no words, only tears. Marie and Mathias both left us.’

Those missing, according to Twitter posts, include 12-year-old Lucie, a 15-year-old boy named Serkan and another girl described only as ‘young and beautiful’.

One desperate person says: ‘I’m searching for my brother and his friend. They were in a bar near the Bataclan. My brother is called Florian, 16. He is blond and has green eyes. His friend is Romain, 17. He has brown hair and blue eyes. Please help us to find them.’ – Daily Mail
