London - The Sony hack may have been carried out by a bitter former employee – not North Korea, one of the world’s top cyber security firms believes.

Researchers from US-based Norse have briefed the FBI on their belief that it was an inside job.

But the FBI believes North Korea could have hired outside hackers to disguise its own involvement in the plot.

Norse executive Kurt Stammberger said: “Whenever we see some indicators or leads that North Korea may be involved, when we follow those leads, they turn out to be dead ends. We think that we would have seen key indicators by now in our investigation that would point to the North Koreans. We don’t see those data points. So if they [the FBI] have got them, they should share some of them.”

Sony is still reeling from the hacking which started two months ago. Damaging emails from executives about film stars and movies were made public and Sony initially cancelled the Christmas Day opening of the North Korean spoof film The Interview. - Daily Mail
