London - If the horsemeat scandal made you anxious about meat from the supermarket, a new free smartphone app may restore your peace of mind.

With Where’s This From?, you scan the four-digit EU identification mark on every packet of meat and mince for information on the name and location of the farm, slaughterhouse and transport operators who handled it.

The app links to data held by the Food Standards Agency (FSA), and can also tell you how far your meat has travelled and what other products are handled at the operator’s plant.

More importantly, Where’s This From? also reveals how each stage of the supply chain fares in the FSA standards for hygienic production and animal welfare, by boiling down ratings to a simple verdict such as “best in show” or “could do better”. - Daily Mail
