Cape Town - A nine-year-old pupil from Reddam House Preparatory School in Constantia, Cape Town, won an award at the Global Entrepreneur Awards for creating a mobile application that works in three continents.

William Colglazier, with the assistance of his British friend, Alexander Glidden, eight, were presented the award for their mobile app @Me-on-the-Move by UN eGovernment adviser Richard Kerby and Flemish Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Minister Geert Bourgeois.

The boys received the award at the recent DataDay2014 conference in Ghent in Belgium. The conference was about open data developments from around the world. Their application is aimed at assisting tourists.

@Me-on-the-Move works in five minutes and draws together publicly available data about events in Cape Town, Ghent, Athens in Greece and Holyoke and York in the US.

Colglazier recently moved to South Africa from the US. He said he wanted to show the world his new city.

“The hardest part about making the app was getting the same type of data from cities around the world. People in Cape Town were so friendly and helpful though. Everyone was just so happy to help promote Cape Town to global tourists,” Colglazier said.

Colglazier aims to donate his prize money to the Westlake Emmanuel Educare school. - Cape Times
