Drivers looking for an alternative route home have been left baffled by their satnav – after receiving instructions to go via a tiny village in Austria.

Motorists who use a Garmin GPS device have discovered a bug in the gadget’s software, which is diverting them hundreds of miles to the picturesque Alpine town of Preitenegg. The glitch has hit users across Western Europe, including Britain.

One wrote on the firm’s feedback forum: ‘Satnav announced that the M20 was closed and would find a better route. Helpful, but not useful with this Preitenegg problem.’

Garmin’s spokesman said they were working to resolve the issue. – Daily Mail
