Floyd Mayweather is set to announce that the richest fight in boxing history will take place in Las Vegas on May 2.

All that remains of the long wait for the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world to take on the pretender to that mythical title, Manny Pacquiao, is for Mayweather to confirm that it’s on.

The pair would share a purse of $250million (£162m) to settle their five-year argument in the ring.

One of the stipulations in Mayweather’s contract is his right to tell the world the fight is on, with all parties now reliably reported to have agreed.

The deal to fight at welterweight is also said to include a clause for a £195m rematch back at the MGM Grand in the autumn.

From a British point of view, it is a disappointment for Amir Khan to miss out on fighting either of them, but that had been expected. – Daily Mail
