Dubai – Allan Donald, South Africa’s bowling coach, has left the squad in the UAE and returned home to take care of family business.
He will be replaced on tour by Vincent Barnes, the high performance coach who arrives here on Monday.
The former Proteas quick bowler, who joined the management team when Gary Kirsten took over as coach two years ago and continued in the same position after Russell Domingo was appointed as head coach, was granted leave of absence, according to Mohammed Moosajee, the manager of the squad who also doubles up as the team doctor.
“Allan Donald has returned home for family reasons,” Moosajee said at a press conference on Sunday.
“He has been granted leave of absence. We are not sure whether he will return as he needs some time to sort things out.
“In the interim, Vincent Barnes, the high performance coach who is also a selector and who was to join us for the one-day series, will be arriving today to take care of the bowling coach’s duties.”
Domingo said that with Barnes arriving he would not chance anything with the bowling unit as they head into the second Test.
“I don’t think there are going to be too many changes. Vinny is just here to oversee and support bowlers. Allan’s the bowling coach and Vinny is just standing in to try and follow up the work he’s been doing. So I don’t think Vinny will change anything at all,” Domingo said.
