South Africa’s first post-isolation national cricket captain Clive Rice died in hospital Tuesday morning.

The former South African cricket captain, one of the greatest all-rounders of his time, had surgery for a brain tumour a few weeks ago in India.

His battle with cancer saw him go to Bangalore for radiation treatment called CyberKnife and in recent times it looked like the treatment in India was a success.

However, he lost the battle on Tuesday.

Rice was influential in Kevin Pietersen’s decision to ply his trade in England, and later playing for the Three Lions.
