Cricket SA has signed three-year deal with the SABC to provide live television coverage of all home international matches.

“This is really big news for all cricket fans,” CSA chief executive Haroon Lorgat said on Thursday.

“We were challenged in the recent past without a deal in place but we are now excited with the new energy and support of the SABC.

“I would like to sincerely thank the SABC for partnering with cricket. Their support will make a big difference to the access, growth and development of the game and will enable all South Africans to watch their Proteas heroes in action.”

The agreement also included live ball-by-ball radio coverage on 2000FM as well as a weekly television magazine programme.

Their coverage starts with the first Test against the West Indies on December 17 at Centurion, followed by a Boxing Day Test in Port Elizabeth and New Year's Test in Cape Town. The public broadcaster will also televise live the three T20 Internationals and the five-match ODI series against the West Indies in January.

The SABC's chief operations officer Hlaudi Motsoeneng said the deal demonstrated their commitment in making sports of national interest accessible to every South African. – Sapa
