Moratuwa - South African all-rounder Jacques Kallis was withdrawn before the start of the Proteas’ warm-up fixture against a Board Presidents’s XI at the De Soysa Stadium, in Moratuwa, on Thursday.

The veteran, scheduled to bat at three, was pulled out as a precaution after complaining of stiffness in his upper back during the warm-up routine ahead of the match.

The tourists were invited to bat first on a slow deck, and were on 82 for one after 20 overs, with Hashim Amla having started slowly, before stroking his way to a fluent 50 not out off 54 balls.

Quinton De Kock, Amla’s opening partner, was the only wicket to have fell, the left-hander trapped on the crease by spinner Subaj Randiv for 18. Faf du Plessis, in at first drop, is currently on 11 not out.
