Johannesburg – Australia faced 3.2 overs on day four for the addition of two runs to reach 290 for four, a lead of 481, before they declared in the first Test at SuperSport Park, in Centurion, on Saturday.
Resuming on an overnight total of 288 for three, Shaun Marsh was out caught behind by AB de Villiers, off the bowling of Dale Steyn without adding to his overnight total of 44.
At the fall of the wicket, Michael Clarke (17 not out) declared, setting South Africa 482 to win.
The declaration leaves the Proteas six sessions -- or two days playing time -- to bat out.
Australia will have close to 180 overs to bowl South Africa out.
