Durban – The ICC has ignored South Africa as a host of its major cricket tournaments over the next 10 years.

India have been given the lion’s share of the tournaments, while the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) have also been generously treated.

By contrast, South Africa will only host two minor tournaments – the Under-19 World Cup in 2020 and the Women’s Twenty20 in 2022.

India, who hosted the last World Cup in 2011, are scheduled to host it again in 2023, while they will also be hosting the World Twenty20 in 2016 and the World Test Championship in 2021.

The ECB will hold the inaugural World Test Championship in 2017 and the World Cup in 2019. Australia will hold the World Twenty20 in 2020.

For South Africa, No 1 in the world Test rankings and in the top rank in all forms of the game, to be ignored in this manner is baffling.

There is speculation that this situation has come about because of the current vacuum in leadership in CSA.

The body have delayed naming a full-time executive officer (Naasei Appiah is acting CEO) to replace the disgraced Gerald Majola, while the president, Chris Nenzani, is regarded as an inexperienced lightweight.

The concern is that South Africa simply didn’t fight their corner during the ICC Annual Conference that concluded in London on Saturday.
