India won the toss and made 168/6 in their Twenty20 international against South Africa at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Sunday as Makhaya Ntini bowed out of international cricket to warm applause from players and spectators alike.

Wayne Parnell bowled the first ball for South Africa on the new track for the inaugural cricket match played at the Fifa World Cup soccer stadium to Rohit Sharma opening the batting for India.

Vijay (14) raced away to a quick start but when he smashed Parnell back over the bowler's head, Morne van Wyk ran across and took a spectacular diving catch to dismiss the opener.

Proteas' captain Johan Botha brought himself on early to stem the flow of runs and achieved quick success when he bowled out Virat Kohli (28).

At the halfway mark India were 81/2. Their first 50 came off 32 balls and included eight fours and a six.

Rohit Sharma (53) reached his 50 off 32 balls before he tried one big hit too many and was caught by Ntini on the boundary off JP Duminy's off spin bowling.

Then came a disastrous run out for Yuvraj Singh (12) when his partner chose not to run. Singh was left stranded as David Miller removed the bails.

Just as Rusty Theron was being hit around the ground, Yusuf Pathan (6) got an Inside edge which crashed onto his stumps.

Suresh Raina hit 41 runs off 23 balls and went out on the last ball of the allotted 20 overs after hitting two fours and three sixes.

Ntini received a standing ovation as he bowled his last ever ball for South Africa. He was expensive conceding 46 runs off his four overs but no one seemed to mind as they applauded the cricket icon. – Sapa
