Trevor Fisher shot a six-under par 66 in the second-round of the Vodacom Origins of Golf tournament at the Legend Golf and Safari Estate, Mookgophong in Limpopo on Thursday.

Fisher, who could not buy a putt in the first-round, changed his putter and his luck, as he scorched round the course, with no one else coming even remotely close to matching his score.

His two-round total of seven-under-par 137 gives him a four-stroke edge going into the final round.

“If I putt badly, I change my putter straight away,” said Fisher.

“I had a new putter in my bag this week after my putts never fell yesterday (Wednesday).”

His car's boot is full of putters, and his dabbling has been enough to earn him four wins on the Sunshine Tour, with his last in 2009 on the Bloemfontein leg of the Origins of Golf series.

It has been a good year for Fisher with eight top-10s, but a win has yet to come his way, as he constantly finds fault with his putting.

The eagle-three on his final hole of his second-round – the ninth – underlined how well he played on a windy day.

The next best score was a three-under-par 69 by Josh Cunliffe, who is on level-par and seven shots adrift of Fisher. He sank a 25-footer for that eagle.

“That was lovely,” he said.

“It felt really good, and I putted really nicely today. Today, they all went in Ä all the crucial putts I had went in today (Thursday).”

Four shots behind him were Ockie Strydom, Louis de Jager and Lyle Rowe in a share of second place on 141, with Darren Fichardt, Desvonde Botes, Neil Cheetham, Jean Hugo and Charl Coetzee bunched together on 142.

Fisher made some adjustments to the way he placed the ball before putting, which also had an effect on the outcome.

“I was lining my ball up last week, and I lined it up yesterday (Wednesday) a bit again,” he said.

“But then, I actually started just putting my ball down, with no particular line up on the ball, and I just putted. I felt I putted freer, and I'm just trying to stay down and get a good roll on it Ä and everything worked out.” – Sapa
