Johannesburg – While German Martin Kaymer surged to a six-shot lead on 10 under, with a second consecutive 65, the South African players were left scrambling to make the cut on day two of the US Open at Pinehurst number two, North Carolina, on Friday.
Ernie Els (70), Louis Oosthuizen (73) and Retief Goosen (71) all made the cut by one on four over at the halfway stage.
The leading South African player on day one, Charl Schwartzel, fell to a second-round 76 to end on six over, and missed the cut by one.
Garth Mulroy was the best placed South African on three over, following his first-round 71 with a 72. Mulroy is 13 shots behind Kaymer going into the weekend. – Sapa
