The daughter of Orlando Pirates football club chairman Irvin Khoza has died of Aids-related complications at a Pretoria hospital, a spokesperson said on Monday.
Dominic Ntsele said Zodwa Khoza, 30, who was also the club's brand manager, died of what doctors described as multiple organ failure at the Louis Pasteur hospital in Pretoria at 2.15pm on Monday.
Her mother and two brothers were at her bedside.
"There is no doubt that my daughter died from Aids-related complications," said Khoza senior.
"It is sad that she contracted HIV within a marriage. At this stage, I am most worried about her daughter. They were very close."
Khoza was married to soccer star and former Bafana Bafana vice-captain Sizwe Motaung and the two had a daughter, who is now eight years old.
Khoza divorced her husband after she discovered that he had infected her with HIV, the statement read on Monday.
Motaung died in August 2001 at his parents' house near Newcastle. He was 31.
Ntsele said Khoza, born Ntombizodwa Nomvula on August 19, 1975, took ill after her return from the African Cup of Nations in Egypt.
Leader of United Democratic Movement (UDM) Bantu Holomisa and Gauteng arts and culture MEC Barbara Creecy were among those who extended their condolences to both the family and the club, describing Khoza's death as a loss to the sporting fraternity. - Sapa
