Eindhoven - Natalie Du Toit nailed her third gold medal in the pool at the IPC swimming world championships in Eindhoven, Netherlands on Tuesday.

On this occasion it was the 100-metre freestyle final (S9 category) and the Paralympic star powered her way to victory in 1min 02.42sec.

But there was more joy for Team SA when Port Elizabeth's young star, Kevin Paul, got some more silverware, literally, when he was runner-up in the 100m breaststroke final (SB9 category). He clocked 1:07.29 and the disappointment at not winning gold was compensated for in some way by the fact it was a national record.

Three other South Africans made finals and of the trio of Charl Bouwer came closest to a medal when he ended fourth in the 100m butterfly final.

Swimming in the S13 category, the visually impaired athlete clocked 1:00.62 but like Paul he'll be encouraged by the fact that his time was a national record.

The other two finalists were Beth Nothling who took sixth (52.56) in the 50m backstroke (S5) and Sarah Shannon, seventh (1:17.44) in the 50m backstroke (S3).

Team South African now have five medals in the competition - three gold, a silver and a bronze.

Thirteen more swimmers will be in action in Wednesday morning's programme, with Du Toit being one of them again as she hunts down more medals.
