Johannesburg - Chad le Clos claimed gold in the 100 metre men’s butterfly in a time of 50.56 seconds at the 16th FINA World Championships in Kazan on Saturday.

Starting in lane three, Le Clos turned in second position but powered down the final few lengths to claim gold.

In second place was Hungary’s Laslo Cseh in 50.87 with Joseph Isaac Schooling of Singapore taking third in 50.96.

Le Clos, the 2012 London Olympic Gold medalist in the 200m and silver medalist in the 100m, improved significantly on his time of 51.11 he swam in the semi-finals where he finished second.
