A request for an official provincial funeral for former Springbok and Western Province rugby player Tinus Linee has been received, the presidency said on Friday.
"The request is receiving attention," spokesman Mac Maharaj said in a statement.
This was after the presidency denied on Thursday that it had received a request from the Western Cape provincial government for an official funeral for Linee.
On Friday, Maharaj clarified that the request had been sent through the e-mail address of the presidential hotline, rather than the presidency's normal office e-mail.
"Given the volume of enquiries it may take longer at times for hotline staff to identify letters that have been sent to them erroneously."
The office of the Western Cape premier had helped to locate the e-mail, Maharaj said.
