Johannesburg – Blue Bulls captain Deon Stegmann was handed a one week suspension for striking EP Kings lock Darron Nell, Saru's judicial officer Tokkie van Zyl said in a statement on Wednesday.

The incident took place last Friday at the Nelson Mandela Stadium when the Bulls flanker was red carded in the 69th minute after he struck Nell in the face with his elbow.

Bulls hooker Bongi Mbonambi was cleared of further sanction after receiving a yellow card in the match for charging into a ruck without using his arms.

Van Zyl also ruled that the yellow card handed to Golden Lions under-21 lock Ramone Samuels for dangerous play was a sufficient sanction.

Western Province under-21 flyhalf Robert du Preez is set to appear before a disciplinary hearing in Cape Town on Wednesday after being cited for lifting a player in a tackle and dropping him to the ground in the match at Ellis Park. – Sapa
