New Zealand captain Richie McCaw will reportedly reveal whether he will retire from international rugby on Thursday.

The 34-year-old is the most-capped player at Test level in the history of the sport, having racked up 148 appearances, and he is a two-time World Cup winner in what has been a glittering career.

New Zealand's recent success in the global tournament on English soil could be the final time the flanker is seen in the famous black shirt and it would be a fitting way to say goodbye.

Many thought McCaw would announce his retirement after the final but the experienced forward has been deliberating the decision for the past few weeks.

According to the New Zealand Herald, the news on his future will be revealed soon after NZRU chief executive Steve Tew told the publication the skipper is nearly ready.

"He wanted to go into 2015 and enjoy playing the year without really worrying about whether everything he did was the last time he did it," he said. "He didn't want the team distracted by that and now he has asked for a little bit more time before finally making a decision and announcement.

"He won't be too far away from getting to that point and if we give him a little more space and have a little more patience we'll all be rewarded with the ultimate answer shortly." - Female First
