Newly-appointed Bafana Bafana coach Gordon Igesund is to be assisted by SA soccer legends Lucas Radebe, Fani Madida and Doctor Khumalo, a report says.

Soccer news website www.kickoff.co.za is reporting that current assistant coach, Jairo Leal of Brazil, will be axed in favour of the South African trio.

There is no word on Steve Komphela’s role with the team – if any, the report says.

According to the website, Radebe is favoured to take up the team manager’s post, while Madida and Khumalo will be taken on as assistant coaches.

Radebe has had no active role in SA soccer since he retired from the game seven years ago, while Madida is an assistant coach at AmaZulu and Khumalo is an assistant at his former club, Kaizer Chiefs.

Meanwhile, it has also been reported that Igesund will receive R400 000 per month as part of his two-year performance-based contract.

Safa President Kirsten Nematandani was reluctant to reveal Igesund’s salary in the press conference on Saturday, but admitted that the new coach would be payed less than his predecessor Pitso Mosimane, who earned in the region of R800 000 per month.

The terms of Igesund’s contract indicate that he must lead his team to the semi-finals of Afcon 2013, which will be held in South Africa. He also has to qualify his team for the 2014 World Cup. – IOL
