London – Andy Carroll could be given the chance to resurrect his Liverpool career if he accepts he will not start regularly.

The England striker is on loan at West Ham, who are keen to sign him permanently.

Carroll’s old club, Newcastle, are also interested and a swap deal taking Hatem Ben Arfa to Anfield is a possibility.

Although Carroll would go back into the squad on his return to Anfield, it is likely he will be off-loaded.

Newcastle have never hidden their wish to take Carroll back to Tyneside two-and-a-half years after selling him for a record-breaking £35million.

But Newcastle and West Ham remain unwilling to pay anything like the £17m Liverpool are looking for.

Carroll, who cannot play in West Ham’s match at Anfield on Sunday due to the terms of his loan, will not be a frontline striker back at Liverpool but, if he can accept that, he will be given opportunities. – Daily Mail
