London – Manchester United manager David Moyes has told his underperforming players they will be replaced with big names if they don’t improve.

With £37million signing Juan Mata set to make his debut at home to Cardiff tonight, Moyes warned there will be more signings to follow.

United are 14 points off the pace in the Barclays Premier League after a dismal first half of the season and Moyes has had enough. “I am not going to accept it,” he said. “I am disappointed we are not in a much stronger position. I am disappointed with how we have played.

“I, ultimately, take the rap for that. But what I will do is make it right. I am going to get better players in.

“Unfortunately, I don’t think there will be more in January, but it will change.”

The exit of Anderson on loan to Fiorentina, plus the impending departures of Wilfried Zaha and Fabio, further confirm Moyes’ intentions.

Rio Ferdinand will leave in the summer while the futures of skipper Nemanja Vidic and full back Patrice Evra are also in the balance.

With Alexander Buttner, Nani, Ashley Young and Javier Hernandez among those who also have questions marks hanging over them, the Moyes revolution is under way.

“I have given every player the opportunity to play and show what they can do,’ said the United manager. ‘We have had a pretty good chance to have a look at it.

“The players have to perform. If they want to be here and making sure they have a jersey, they have to show it in the games.

“Undoubtedly, this club want to be at the top. We want to be challenging.

“At this moment in time we have failed to do that. We want to do something about it.” – Daily Mail
